  • From the Mats to the Olympics: The Journey of Jiu-Jitsu Towards World-Class Recognition

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that originated in Brazil in the early 20th century. It was developed by the Gracie family, who modified traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu & Judo techniques to create a more effective grappling style. Over the years, the sport version of the art has become increasingly popular around the world, with millions of practitioners and a growing presence in the world of combat sports. Despite its popularity, BJJ has yet to be recognized as an Olympic sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). However, there have been recent developments that suggest BJJ may be moving closer to Olympic recognition. To be included in the Olympic program, a sport ....

  • Congratulations to Tom Viera, Bruno Souza and the entire Jiu-Jitsu Team at FMA

This October is a special month for our Jiu-Jitsu class here at Franklin Martial Arts in Bellingham.
Many cool things are taking place. Our class keeps growing, our students are pumped, and we have some athletes attending tournaments. So many things are happening, yet nothing is as special in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a hard earned belt promotion. So we would like to take a moment to congratulate these guys and recognize all the hard effort on the their part. But there is much more. One of these promotions is a very special one... In the very beginning of our Jiu-Jitsu program, on a random day sometime around 2005, a humble, quiet guy in his early forties walked into our class for the first ....

  • Jiu-Jitsu promotions at Bruno Souza Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Franklin Martial Arts Bellingham MA

May was truly a great month for Jiu-Jitsu here at Franklin Martial Arts in Bellingham MA , especially since we had a significant number of belt promotions here at our academy. In Jiu-Jitsu, promotions don't come by very often, and they don't come undeserved either. These guys have made a commitment to the art because of their pure love for Jiu-Jitsu and what it does for them. The secret is getting out regarding the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu, but it still takes dedication and work to reach those benefits. These guys here, along with other students, have surrendered and dedicated themselves to Jiu-Jitsu, and have accepted the challenge of bettering themselves. Tom Viera [brown], Ryan Burke ....

  • Must Read - FMA Special Event to Benefit Charity in Mass with Jiu-Jitsu for Youth

It was also a good month for Franklin Martial Arts in regards to helping charities by fundraising and raising awareness. One of the causes we also focused on this month was a really, really cool non-profit called Level Ground MMA. We help numerous charities throughout the year, but this one really "spoke" to us. Franklin Martial Arts held a special seminar with guest instructor Dan McCarthy, where a good majority of the entry fees were donated to the cause. But just wait until you read what they actually do... Level Ground MMA is a greater Boston based non-profit which aims to help less fortunate youth with guidance, tutoring, mentorship, martial arts training, and much more. At Franklin ....

Did you know that Franklin Martial Arts generates its own electric power?
That's right! Our school made the investment of installing solar panels about a year ago, and we have not paid an electric bill in a long time. They are hardly noticeable from below, but if you could look on top of our roof, you would see their shininess. We produce all the electricity we need, and then some.
So next time you find yourself enjoying our well lit training floors, or if you notice a plug-in heater in the waiting area to keep the parents comfy, remember that it's all clean energy. This means Franklin Martial Arts is offsetting our environmental footprint, and by supporting clean energy ....

We at Franklin Martial Arts would like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and pleasant year-end season. Let's keep it fun and enjoy it. As you may already know, Franklin Martial Arts has partnered with ....
